CBS is close to giving an early renewal to multi-camera comedy Mom for a fifth season. The pickup was never in doubt as Mom has been a solid ratings performer, earns Emmy nominations, has a strong social message, and comes from The Big Bang Theory boss Chuck Lorre who has been the single most important comedy producer on CBS for the past decade. CBS and producing studio Warner Bros TV declined comment.

“I’m going to be a part of it,” Janney promised. “I’ve been like, ‘Josh, I literally have no time’ — I love Josh Malina and the podcast. I want to be a part of it, but I’ve just not had a minute to do it.”

“And please, if you’re putting that in there, tell him how much we’ve been trying to get a moment for us to do it,” Janney continues. So there you go, Malina and fans alike: Janney has plans to appear. It’s just a matter of when.

“The West Wing is one of my favorite things I’ve ever done,” Janney added. “I love everyone in it still and we’re all very much still in each other’s lives whenever we can be.”

Allison Janney will lead the cast of a Broadway revival of “Six Degrees of Separation” this spring, co-starring with John Benjamin Hickey in a new production of the 1990 John Guare play.

Janney, the “Mom” and “The West Wing” Emmy winner, last appeared on Broadway in the 2009 musical “9 to 5.” In “Six Degrees” she’ll play Ouisa, the wealthy Manhattanite who, with her husband, is taken in by a con man claiming to be Sidney Poitier’s son. Hickey (“Manhattan”), a 2011 Tony winner for “The Normal Heart,” will play Ouisa’s husband, Flan.

Though Allison Janney played White House press secretary C.J. Cregg for seven seasons on “The West Wing,” she was so busy filming that she rarely had time to watch the show during its run. And, like many actors, found herself being overly critical of her own work. When Variety asked her to pick some favorite moments, she recalled many fond memories. And now she says: “I think I’m at a place where I’m going to enjoy watching that show and will not have any problem looking at anything I did.”
